Hi, it's andromaeda. You may have seen me throughout the weekend as a chat moderator. I'm from all the way in New Zealand. This cause means a lot to me, not just because I have friends from Minnesota, but because as a Pākehā New Zealander (white NZer) I look upon what's going on and think of my country's shameful past. In the 70s our police were tasked to crack down on supposed visa overstayers. The police would show up at the break of dawn at people's houses, harassing families and asking for identification they wouldn't have on hand. Many Pasifika people were unfairly targeted despite the majority being legal citizens. While it was not as violent as what we are seeing today, it was still incredibly traumatising and many are still feeling the effects of it to this day. I look upon America and think, this should not be happening again. I stand with my friends and family on the other side of the world.
